Zakah is obligatory on the Muslim who has reached puberty, who is sane, who is free, and who owns the minimum assigned nisab, according to the conditions in Shari'ah.
We are guided by the following Ayat. Surah At Tawbah, Ayat 60.
۞ إِنَّمَا ٱلصَّدَقَـٰتُ لِلْفُقَرَآءِ وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ وَٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَ عَلَيْهَا وَٱلْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَفِى ٱلرِّقَابِ وَٱلْغَـٰرِمِينَ وَفِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱبْنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۖ فَرِيضَةًۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌۭ
Alms-tax is only for the poor and the needy, for those employed to administer it, for those whose hearts are attracted to the faith, for freeing slaves, for those in debt, for Allah’s cause, and for needy travellers. This is an obligation from Allah. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
As a zakaat collector, Quran House collects zakaat throughout the year. In the course of the year, the sum of zakaat that is collected from one Ramadan to another Ramadan is mainly distributed to needy families and individuals residing in the region of Beau Bassin, Rose Hill, Quatre Bornes. On a wider scale, Quran House often collaborates with other organisations to fund national and internationally scale projects. In this regard, Quran House if one of the Founders of the Zakaat Hub project. Additionally, in 2014, Quran House was the brain behind the creation of the 'Oasis Zakaat Partnership Framework' in 2014 and is one of the Founders of the Zakaat Hub project.
